“On one hand we have an agricultural economy that depends on farm workers. On the other hand, we haven’t given them any kind of status in this country. What we need to do is come up with a guest worker program that really works, so that the people can come here with some legal status, so they don’t need to be constantly afraid, that they’re paid a decent wage for what they do, and then everyone will recognize that they’re providing a valuable service to the country.”
